Licensed Research Technician (Diagnostic Nanotools (DINA))
Diagnostic Nanotools is a research group based at Vall d’Hebron Hospital (Barcelona, Spain). WE ARE SEARCHING for a Part-Time Licensed Research Technician to join a project funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MICIU/AEI; Proyectos Generación de Conocimiento). The candidate will participate in the development of fast assays and electrochemical biosensors for the diagnosis of respiratory infections.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or similar (averaged qualification above 7 over 10)
- Master’s degree completed
- Fluency in Spanish, with competence in Catalan and English (the latter, both written and spoken)
- Technically skilled, with high level of autonomy and multidisciplinary profile
Experience and knowledge:
Required (Candidates with experience in at least two of the following fields will be prioritized):
- Experience in optimizing and performing bioassays using magnetic particles (MP)
- Familiarity with different strategies for particle surface bioengineering
- Basic understanding of electrochemical detection techniques
- Paper microfluidics or production of paper-based diagnostic devices
- Knowledge of the reference techniques for the diagnosis of infectious diseases
- Experience in the optimization and validation of diagnostic assays
Desired:
- Familiarity with work under sterile conditions and handling of infected samples
- Previous experience working in the field in poor countries
- An interest in applied research and technology transfer
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Our Group has produced a low-cost technology for malaria quantitative point-of-care diagnosis (Biosens Bioelectron, 2024, 246:115875, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bios.2023.115875; Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2022, 215:114513, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bios.2022.114513; Biosens Bioelectron, 2020, 150:111925, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bios.2019.111925). The candidate will participate in the production of an enhanced diagnostic platform, in collaboration with researchers of the Spanish National Centre of Microelectronics (IMB-CNM, CSIC), which will be applied to detection and monitoring of respiratory infections. Work will include optimization of single-step magnetic bead-based immunoassays, development of paper devices for assay easy handling, and implementation of electrochemical detection to produce fast and simple electrochemical immunosensors. The work will also include validation in real samples.
Labour conditions:
- Part-time position: 36 h/week
- Starting date: 01/03/2025 (until July 2027)
- Gross annual salary: 20.545€/year (Remuneration consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
