Competitive Research Directorate – Pre-Award Unit
Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public sector institution, located in Barcelona (Spain) that promotes and develops innovative biomedical research at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron. VHIR is oriented towards finding solutions to the health problems of the citizens and has the will to contribute to the scientific, educational, social and economic development within its area of competence.
The Competitive Research Directorate will support the scientific community at Vall d’Hebron throughout the full lifecycle of competitive projects. This Directorate collaborates with researchers in the pursuit of competitive funding for research, and in the successful implementation of granted projects.
Under the leadership of the Competitive Projects Directorate, the Pre-Award Unit encourages, facilitates, and provides support to research staff in the search for competitive funding, detecting opportunities and contributing to the development of quality proposals.
We are currently looking for one motivated professional to join the team as pre-award manager with focus on national grants to support talent attraction, training and mobility.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- University degree related with job description duties
- Fluency in English (business level)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Catalan and/or Spanish
Desired:
- Additional training in competitive research projects
- Knowledge of other European languages
- Doctoral degree in biomedical science related disciplines
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- At least 2 years of work experience in proposal preparation and/or managing of competitive research projects and/or talent attraction, training and mobility programmes.
- A thorough knowledge of National (ISCIII, AEI, AGAUR, Foundations) and/or European (MSCA – Horizon Europe, among others) funding programmes.
- Personal skills:

Desired:
- Knowledge of other EU, national and international funding programmes (i.e. PERIS, EU4HEALTH, DIGITAL, NIH, private Foundations, etc.).
- Experience in addressing RRI aspects and/or other transversal aspects important for fellowship proposals.
- Previous experience in health/biomedical research environment.
- Experience in management of personnel contracts and payroll.
- Track record of successful grant applications.
- Experience as academic officer in research institutions.
- International work experience.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Detect, analyse and disseminate talent attraction, training and mobility programmes as well as other calls from national and international funders
- Contribute to the strategic evaluation of funding opportunities and project ideas
- Support researchers and candidates during proposal preparation and help in the project plan preparation
- Participate in the preparation of competitive research and talent attraction proposals (writing and review)
- Manage grant agreements with funders, other VHIR Directorates (HR, Legal), University
- Feed and maintain the internal database with call information and proposal data, providing high-quality indicators when requested
- Join infodays and events to establish new collaborations and contacts
- Any other duties related to the job as requested to contribute to the general functioning of the Pre-Award Unit.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40h/week.
- Starting date: immediate.
- Gross annual salary: Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale.
- Contract: Open-ended contract linked to the Project.
