Laboratory Technician (Clinical biochemistry, drug delivery & therapy)
VHIR offers a vacant position for a laboratory technician to cover the basic experimental and management needs of the Clinical Biochemistry, Drug Delivery & Therapy group.
The candidate will be hired within the CancerScan project to assist in its development as well as with general routine techniques and procedures in the lab. Our group is experienced in developing and testing in pre-clinical models a spectrum of nanomedicines. Within the CancerScan project spheroids from pancreatic cancer origin will be produced and employed to elucidate the influence of cancer communication mediated by extracellular vesicles (EVs) in response to therapy. The candidate’s main tasks will be to assist in the synthesis of spheroids as well as the further analysis of secreted EVs subsets, including their monitoring, isolation and characterisation under distinct treatment regimens.
In addition, the technician will also work with the FVPR/U20 service platform of the group. FVPR/U20 is dedicated to perform customised production and functional assays for the pre-clinical development of novel diagnostic or therapeutic compounds based on nanotechnology. FVPR/U20 is part of ICTS-Nanbiosis and operates in an ISO9001:2015 certified environment. The candidate will also perform tasks on national and international projects of the CB-DDT group and contribute to the laboratory management.

Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Certificate of higher education (Ciclo Formativo de Grado Superior (CFGS) / Formación Profesional de Segundo Grado (FPII)). Technicians with degree studies (BSc) may also apply
- Fluency in English (business-level)
Desired:
- Specific/Additional training in cell culture, molecular biology and bio-production processes
- Fluency in Catalan
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- At least 12 months’ experience of laboratory work in research-related projects, including basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, Western blot, ELISA, etc.) and routine cell culturing
- Lab management skills (analytical, organisational and time management)
- Good computer skills, especially with MS Office
Desired:
- Experience in Quality Management Systems

Main responsibilities and duties:
- Cell culture: basic maintenance (subculturing, freezing and storing), functional assays (cell proliferation, apoptosis, etc) of a variety of cultures available in the lab
- Complete molecular biology characterisation of cell cultures after treatment with different chemotherapeutics
- Characterisation and handling of different types of nanomaterials, especially extracellular vesicles
- Administrative and laboratory management tasks
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40h/week
- Starting date: immediate
- Gross annual salary: 20.757,00 euros (Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
