Data Engineer (Data Architecture Department)
VHIR is a public sector institution that promotes and develops the biomedical research, innovation and teaching at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH), the hospital of Barcelona and the largest of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS).
We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong analytical and organizational skills to support the Data Architecture Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH). The candidate will play a key role in an international project, contributing to the structuring, management, and transfer of healthcare data to ensure its proper organization, exploitation, and governance.
HUVH is a pioneer in the country in developing the Value-Based Health Care model, employing systematic and participative methodologies. The development of this model has grown in the last year in parallel with the collaboration of some European-Funded projects.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- University Degree or higher degree, preferably in Computer Engineering, Life Science, Data Science or similar
- Master’s degree in Business Intelligence, Big Data, Data Science or similar
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English (business level)
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Experience in data structuring, management, and transfer
- Knowledge of data governance and best practices in healthcare data management
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and interact with external partners
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle various data-related tasks
- Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, non-relational databases, Sybase, etc
Desired:
- Experience in working with healthcare or research data
- Valuable knowledge of healthcare applications: SAP, centricity, Gacela or Sirena, modulab
- Knowledge of OMOP
- Knowledge preferably in Kettle
- Valuable knowledge in Business Intelligence systems
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Support the structuring of unstructured (free-text) data to improve data usability.
- Assist in the creation and management of data registries ensuring automation.
- Interact with the technology providers to facilitate data transfers and collaborate in defining the data flow.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, privacy, and security regulations for health data in European projects, in coordination with the VHIR legal unit.
- Collaborate with the Information Systems & Decision Support Department for data processing, presentation, and exploitation.
- Provide support in diverse data-related tasks within the hospital’s Data Architecture Department.
- Model databases to facilitate efficient data exploitation and analysis.
- Participate in internal consortium meetings.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40h/week (part-time options may be considered)
- Starting date: immediate
- Gross annual salary: 35.000 - 40.000 euros (Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
