Specialist Technician for Advanced Therapies and Biosafety Preclinical Platform
High Technology Unit – Pre-clinical Core Facilities– Internal Strategy Area
The Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is seeking to recruit a qualified professional to coordinate and manage the operations of the Preclinical Area of Advanced Therapies and Biosafety, providing scientific and technical support to research groups while ensuring compliance with biosafety regulations (BSL2 and BSL3). This position is part of the Preclinical Core Facilities at VHIR, whose mission is to provide high-quality support to biomedical research, ensuring scientific excellence, safety, and operational efficiency.
Project CERT22/00068, funded by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) and by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, which finances actions under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Higher Vocational Education and Training or University degree in Life and Health Sciences (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Medicine, Veterinary Science, or similar).
- Proficiency in Catalan, Spanish and English.
Desired:
- Master's degree or PhD in a related field.
- Specific training in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).
- Training in Biosafety (BSL2, BSL3).
- Training in quality management (GLP, GMP, ISO).
- Training in laboratory or scientific-technical services management.
- Knowledge of preclinical regulatory frameworks.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Experience in biomedical research environments, advanced therapies or biosafety labs, and/or technical-scientific services in the healthcare or biomedical research sector.
Desired:
- Experience in managing or coordinating laboratories or technical units.
- Direct hands-on experience in BSL2 and/or BSL3 labs.
- Ability to write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Knowledge of applicable quality and biosafety regulations in research settings.
- Involvement in inspections, audits, or lab legalization processes.
- Experience in liaising with public bodies regarding biosafety matters.
- Experience in providing technical advice to researchers.
- Knowledge of Occupational Risk Prevention (ORP) regulations.
- Experience with preclinical regulatory frameworks.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Coordinate and manage the operations of the Advanced Therapies and Biosafety Area at VHIR.
- Oversee activities related to biosafety in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories.
- Organize and participate in training sessions on biosafety and advanced therapies.
- Support legal procedures and setup for laboratory authorization and operation.
- Draft and maintain the unit's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Advise and support users of the facility, resolving technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with current safety and quality standards.
- Support audits and inspections, managing resulting actions.
- Represent the unit before official bodies and private stakeholders.
- Contribute to identifying new business opportunities and service improvements.
- Manage the Area’s budget and resources using internal platforms.
- Approve invoices, coordinate service and supplier contracts, and supervise subcontracted processes.
- Participate in quality plan monitoring, indicator tracking, and incident evaluation.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40 hours/week.
- Start date: Immediate.
- Gross annual salary: Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale.
