Bioinformatics Systems Technician (Clinical and translational bioinformatics)
VHIR offers a position for a Bioinformatics Systems Technician in the development of Interpretable Pathogenicity Predictors and cellular AI models for Breast Cancer within Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics Group to participate in the project: Hacia una mejor aplicabilidad de la Inteligencia Artificial en Medicina Genómica: Integrando capacidad predictiva e interpretabilidad en una nueva generación de herramientas para la anotación de variantes de proteínas, file number: PID2022-142753OB-I00, financed by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Bioinformatics graduate degree
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, English (business level)
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Demonstrable knowledge of bioinformatics tools and applications, specifically MSA, geometric computations in 3D structures, and variant retrieval from ClinVar, HumSavar with quality checks
- Management of computer systems (Unix, Mac, NAS technology): backups, creation of users, etc
- Expert knowledge of Python programming (including the use of Generative AI tools)
- Ability to organize complex computational pipelines and distribute computations over a small size computer farm
- Website management
- Demonstrable experience of healthcare ML tool calibration
Desired:
- Knowledge of computer systems maintenance (backups, software installation, user management, etc)
- Knowledge of web programming
- R programming
- Basic statistics
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Overview: The selected individual will oversee the operation and upkeep of the Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics group’s computing system. Responsibilities include routine system maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and coordinating with VHIR’s administration for procurement tasks such as ordering replacement parts and new workstations, as well as setting up new hardware and software. In some circumstances, the candidate will contribute to ongoing projects. Below we list some of the common duties.
- System administration tasks required by the computer system used in the Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics group (several HP/Mac workstations and NAS systems).
- Assist users in the installation of software, in managing their accounts, etc.
- Collaborate with the VHIR’s Informatics and Maintenance teams whenever required (taking responsibility for the downtime of the computer system whenever requested by these teams).
- Support users in their bioinformatics needs, accessing bioinformatics servers, downloading massive datasets, etc.
- Maintenance tasks of the group’s website (biotoclin.org).
- Bioinformatics work related to finishing ongoing projects.
Labour conditions:
- Part-time position: 20h/week
- Starting date: immediate
- Gross annual salary: 17.200,00€ (Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
