TALENT POOL POST: Laboratory Technician for Genomics Platform

We are seeking a laboratory technician for the Genomics Platform, within the High Technology Unit (UAT). UAT belongs to the VHIR pre-clinical core-facilities, providing highly specialized equipment along with scientific and technical expertise to assist researchers in experimental design and data analysis. UAT portfolio comprises Cytometry, Microscopy, Genomics, Metabolomics and Molecular Diagnosis services. In addition, UAT collaborates with other VHIR core-facilities and organizes specialized training and teaching activities.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for executing genomic laboratory techniques, supporting users, and contributing to the smooth daily operation of the platform. This position requires strong technical skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to high-quality service in a research and innovation environment.
This contract will be funded by the “Agencia Estatal de Investigación” and co-funded by the “Fondo Social Europeo Plus-FSE+” (ref. MCIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033), for a period of three years. VHIR will submit one candidate for consideration, and the employment contract will depend on whether this person is selected by the “Agencia Estatal de Investigación”.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Certificate of Higher Education (CFGS/FPII) – Laboratory Technician
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, English
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Hands-on experience in genomic techniques such as nucleic acid quantification and quality control, Sanger sequencing, NGS library preparation, PCR and RT-qPCR, and mouse genotyping.
- Personal skills: strong commitment to customer service, good team player with excellent interpersonal skills, well-organized and able to work responsibly, eagerness to learn, and an open, flexible mindset.
Desired:
- Hands-on experience in advanced genomic techniques, particularly in library preparation for single-cell omics and spatial biology.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Perform assigned laboratory techniques and procedures according to established protocols and under appropriate supervision.
- Provide support to users by addressing questions and troubleshooting issues related to the techniques performed.
- Participate in equipment maintenance activities and coordinate repairs with external service providers when required.
- Prepare technical documentation such as working protocols, equipment operating instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Handle service requests in accordance with established procedures.
- Contribute to activities related to the general functioning of the platform, including stock control, ordering supplies, laboratory organization and cleaning, and supervision of small equipment.
- Provide support to other UAT platforms’ activities as needed.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40h/week.
- Gross annual salary: Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
