Postdoctoral Researcher (Diabetes and metabolism)
VHIR offers a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the Laboratory of Metabolism and Obesity, led by Dr. Josep A. Villena. The research of Dr Villena’s laboratory focuses on the study of the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which adipose tissues contribute to the control of body weight and glucose homeostasis, with particular interest in how the adipocyte-immune cell crosstalk contribute to tissue homeostasis or development of cardiometabolic pathologies. His research combines multiple -omics technologies (transcriptomics, proteomics and cytomics) with the use of sophisticated tissue-specific (constitutive and inducible) knockout mouse models, primary cultures, and human samples.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- PhD in Biology, Biomedicine, Immunology or a related life science discipline
- Specific training in animal experimentation (FELASA accreditation or equivalent)
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- A strong background in immunology, supported by a solid publication record
- Expertise in mRNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and downstream bioinformatics analysis
- Experience with genetically engineered animal models for the study of the immune system
- Excellent organizational, writing and communication skills
Desired:
- Experience with spectral flow cytometry panel design and applications
- Experience in adipose tissue biology and metabolism
- Previous postdoctoral experience will be positively valued
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Lead a research project aimed at identifying the mechanisms by which calorie restriction and time-restricted feeding modulate meta-inflammation and improves metabolic health.
- Generate state-of-the-art tissue-specific inducible mouse and in vitro models to study the crosstalk between adipose and immune cells.
- Identify the gene targets and cellular processes of transcriptional regulators recently identified in our laboratory as potential key factors involved in the reversion of meta-inflammation in response to nutritional challenges.
- Preparation of manuscripts and presentation of results at national and international scientific meetings.
- Collaboration with other laboratory members in their individual research projects.
- Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40h/week
