Project Manager (Neurodegenerative Diseases Group and Internal Strategy Area (Impact & RRI Office))
The Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is seeking a Project Manager to support the management and implementation of the PAIR Project, a citizen science and social research initiative that connects people living with Parkinson’s disease and secondary school students in an intergenerational framework. The initiative has received an Honorary Mention of the European Union Prize for Citizen Science and has been awarded by the Impetus Programme and the Fundació Bancaria “la Caixa”.
The project aims to assess the impact of intergenerational care and mentorship on the emotional and social well-being of people affected by Parkinson’s, while fostering positive attitudes, empathy, and scientific skills among young people.
The position involves coordinating activities between patients, students, teachers, researchers, and partner organisations, ensuring that the work plan, ethical requirements, and data protection measures are met, as well as overseeing data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results in line with Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles.
The position is affiliated with the Impact and RRI Office but dedicated to the citizen science research line of the Neurodegenereative Disease Group.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- University degree (preferably in health sciences, social sciences, education, or related fields)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and Catalan; a high level of English
Desired:
- Training in public health, participatory research, citizen science, or social innovation
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Experience in project management, funding mechanisms, and grant development from either a research or research manager role
- Passionate about Responsible Research and Innovation, Citizen Science and the Gender and Diversity perspective within the health research and healthcare sectors
- Experience in research impact, stakeholder engagement, impact in grant proposals and/or impact assessment and communication
- Understanding of competitive funding programs and policies at both national and international levels within the health and research sectors
- Experience working with patients at different levels; co-creating, etc
- Experience working with patients and/or vulnerable groups
- Experience in project management in research or community-based settings
Desired:
- Experience applying qualitative and quantitative research techniques to assess societal impact, stakeholder engagement, and citizen participation in health research
- Excellent communication and influence skills, with a track record of communicating health research to different audiences
- Knowledge on EU and National Funding Policies to ensure activities sustainability
- Personal skills: strong project management abilities, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, adaptability and flexibility in managing multidisciplinary research environments, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Experience in social impact evaluation and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
- Experience in intergenerational, educational, or volunteer projects
- Knowledge of gender, diversity, and inclusion approaches
- Strong organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Coordinate PAIR Project activities, including training sessions, intergenerational activities, and monitoring of study and control groups.
- Support the design, implementation, and analysis of questionnaires and clinical scales to assess participants’ well-being and quality of life.
- Manage communication with patients, families, schools, and project partners (ACAP, Barcelona City Council, etc.).
- Ensure that all activities comply with the ethical requirements and data protection regulations established by the CEIm and GDPR.
- Coordinate the logistics of activities (on-site or virtual), dissemination events, and follow-up meetings.
- Prepare progress reports, technical summaries, and materials for open science publication and outreach events.
- Contribute to the design of sustainability and replication strategies for the PAIR model in other educational and community contexts.
- Support the Impact and RRI Office in boosting new initiative to promote citizen science in the field of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases
Labour conditions:
- Part-time position: 30h/week
- Starting date: immediate
- Gross annual salary: 18.750 – 22.500,00 euros (Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
