Bioinformatics – AI Technician (Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics)
VHIR offers vacant position for a Bioinformatics – AI Technician in Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics Research Group
Education and qualifications:
Required:
Medical degree or equivalent academic background in Health Sciences
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Biomedicine or a closely related field
Fluency in English (business level)
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
A minimum of two years of experience in the development of ML/AI models for continuous variable prediction
Knowledge of MLR and XGBoost regression models (Implementation and interpretation)
Demonstrated experience developing and using ensemble models (different kinds of jury averaging)
Good coding skills in Python
Experience processing (normalisation and filtering) DMS datasets
Proven knowledge of AlphaFold models
Experience in feature engineering
Desired:
Knowledge of statistics, including density modelling skills
Advanced use of Generative AI tools
Main responsibilities and duties:
The selected candidate will be responsible for advancing and further developing the group’s artificial intelligence models for predicting the functional impact of missense variants. These models were originally developed within the group and have achieved international recognition, including first-place rankings in the CAGI 7 international challenge focused on functional impact prediction of missense variants. The role therefore entails a high level of responsibility, requiring the candidate to extend and enhance an established, state-of-the-art modelling framework. The models primarily produce continuous predictions, although classification approaches may also be employed, and are integrated using ensemble methodologies. The framework combines multiple modelling techniques, including Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and gradient boosting algorithms such as XGBoost, together with feature engineering strategies based on probabilistic, typically Bayesian, models.
