Postdoctoral Reseaarcher (Liver diseases)
The Advanced Chronic Liver Disease Group at VHIR offers a vacant position for a Post-doctoral Researcher. The hired person will participate in translational research projects on infections in advanced chronic liver disease using in vivo and in vitro models, with a particular focus on enterococcal infections.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
PhD degree in Biotechnology or related fields.
Experience in experimental models and molecular microbiology of serious infections (e.g., bacteraemia, endocarditis, septic shock) and liver disease.
Accreditation in animal experimentation in accordance with current regulations
Desirable:
Experience focused on translational research on infectious complications in patients with advanced chronic liver disease.
Experience in the study of host-pathogen interactions, antimicrobial resistance, and the evaluation of new therapeutic strategies against these serious infections.
Experience in the phenotypic and genomic characterisation of enterococcal species, as well as in statistical analysis and interpretation of results, will be considered an advantage.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
Experience in bacterial culture and identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, antibiotic synergy studies, molecular biology techniques, and comparative analyses of clinical isolates.
Desirable:
Postdoctoral experience in competitive research groups, participation in funded projects, authorship of scientific publications, and the ability to write manuscripts and dissertations will be considered.
Teaching experience and the ability to work in multidisciplinary and international environments will also be considered.
Main responsibilities and duties:
In vitro studies of microbiological resistance
Phenotypic characterisation of enterococcal species
In vivo rodent models of infection in advanced chronic liver disease
Analyse research data
Draft research proposals
Contribute to research articles and conference communications
Labour conditions:
Full-time position: 37.5 hours per week.
Starting date: April 2026.
Gross annual salary: Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
Contract type: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities.
