Shared Equipment Technician
The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is offering a position for a Shared Equipment Technician within the Laboratory Coordination Unit. This unit ensures the proper functioning of laboratories and shared areas across VHIR.
Its mission is to support research staff while managing and supervising all common-use spaces, including cell culture rooms, shared equipment rooms, freezer rooms, and centrifuge rooms, among others.
The unit also provides laboratory material sterilization services and coordinates technical support for equipment-related incidents.
Main responsibilities and duties:
Ensure the proper functioning of common rooms: common equipment rooms, culture rooms, cryopreservation rooms, etc.
Common equipment rooms:
Detect incidents (notification and follow-up).
Supervise the established order.
Perform preventive maintenance on shared equipment.
Culture rooms:
Supervise equipment and manage incidents.
Allocate common spaces to research groups.
Attend follow-up meetings.
Carry out tasks assigned during preventive shutdowns.
Centrifuge rooms:
Supervise the condition of rotors and centrifuges.
Supervise the condition of consumable materials (adapters).
Ensure proper use of the equipment and manage password assignments for the ultracentrifuge.
Cryopreservation room:
Assign new liquid nitrogen storage positions.
Supervise the established order.
Cold room:
Supervise order and internal organization.
Freezer rooms:
Daily monitoring of the temperature control system.
Update contact persons in case of incident.
Supervise the established order.
Support researchers regarding the use of shared equipment, accessories, manuals, and other related materials.
Evaluate offers and quotes for the purchase of shared equipment.
Receive and commission new shared equipment.
Support the organization of training sessions for new equipment and internal training at VHIR.
Waste management: Act as contact person with the waste management company, advising on the waste declassification system, label management, etc.
Organize and advise on the use of safety cabinets for chemical products.
Update and draft SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and copies of manuals.
Place orders for materials with various suppliers.
Support the invoice approval process.
Collaborate in guided tours and welcome sessions.
Support relocations.
On-call duty (remote assistance for incidents outside working hours across all areas), once initial training is completed and competencies are consolidated (approximately 1 year).
Ensure compliance with current regulations and legislation in laboratories.
Ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with the internal requirements established by the Unit's quality system. Promote and implement continuous improvement within their area of responsibility.
Support all other tasks within their area of responsibility as assigned by their superior.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
Advanced vocational training in laboratory science (CFGS/FPII) or a degree in a related scientific discipline.
Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, and English (B1/B2 level).
Desirable:
Additional or complementary qualifications.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
At least 2 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
Basic knowledge of cell culture.
Knowledge of the healthcare and biomedical research environment.
Desirable:
Basic knowledge of biosafety.
Knowledge of occupational risk prevention in the laboratory.
Previous experience managing shared equipment environments.
Strong communication skills, empathy, teamwork, flexibility, and proactivity.
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Full-time position (37,5 hours / week).
Starting date: June 2026.
Gross annual salary: Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
Contract type: Permanent contract.
