Laboratory Technician (Research on aging, frailty and transitions in Barcelona)
The Research Group on Aging, Frailty and Care Transitions in Barcelona (REFiT-BCN) offers a technical position for a Laboratory Technician.

Innovative solutions across the Mediterranean for mitigation of climate change-related health risks and enhancing health system resilience. ISMED-CLIM
Project summary:
ISMED-CLIM is a Horizon Europe project that aims to test and demonstrate transformative solutions to build resilience to health risks associated with climate change. The project brings together regions, local authorities, communities, and policymakers, along with clinical, environmental, and social scientists and information technology (IT) experts, to develop and pilot technological and digital solutions to mitigate climate-related health risks and strengthen healthcare system resilience in the Mediterranean biogeographical region.
These solutions will be evaluated in real-world settings through a randomized clinical trial involving older adults. The project is coordinated by the University of Cyprus and involves 27 partners across the Mediterranean region.
The selected candidate will contribute to the fieldwork of a randomized clinical trial designed to test solutions aimed at protecting older adults with hypertension from heatwaves and air pollution in Barcelona.
Main responsibilities and duties:
Contribute to the fieldwork of a randomised controlled trial testing solutions designed to protect older adults from heatwaves and air pollution in Barcelona.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain monitoring devices.
Ensure accurate and timely data recording in compliance with study protocols and data protection regulations.
Identify and report any protocol deviations or fieldwork incidents to the research team.
Coordinate with other members of the research team to ensure smooth study implementation.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
High School degree.
Fluency in Catalan and Spanish.
Desirable:
Bachelor’s degree in health sciences.
Fluency in English (business level).
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
Experience conducting fieldwork with participants or patients involved in clinical trials or other epidemiological studies.
Ability to interact professionally and sensitively with study participants.
Strong organizational skills, with a methodical approach and high level of motivation and initiative.
Ability to adapt to changes and manage unexpected situations during fieldwork.
Desirable:
Experience administering questionnaires.
Experience using and maintaining equipment for environmental exposure assessment.
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Part-time (20 hours per week)
Starting date: April 2026
Gross annual salary: 8.757,60€ (Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
Contract type: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities (Groups 1–2)
Duration: 3,5 months
