Laboratory Assistant
Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is offering two Laboratory Assistant positions within the Cleaning and Material Sterilisation Service for the Laboratory Coordination Unit. This unit is responsible for maintaining the common areas and laboratories at VHIR.
Main responsibilities and duties:
Maintain optimal daily hygiene and sterilisation conditions for all laboratory materials, including collecting, cleaning, sterilising, and distributing materials.
Ensure the daily operation and maintenance of the cleaning rooms under their responsibility (autoclaves, Milli-Q and Elix systems), as well as the organisation of VHIR’s common equipment and facilities (freezers, developing machines, cold rooms, and cleaning storage areas).
Prepare developing solutions, monitor the proper functioning of equipment, and coordinate the disposal of photographic waste through authorised waste management providers.
Perform preventive cleaning and maintenance of common laboratory equipment (centrifuges, microwaves, cabinets, incubators, shakers, ultrasonic baths, etc.).
Carry out assigned activities according to established procedures and participate in procedure updates when required.
Participate in the preventive maintenance shutdowns of common cell culture rooms by carrying out cleaning tasks on laboratory equipment and materials.
Ensure all activities comply with the Unit’s quality system procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within their area of responsibility.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
FPI/CFGM qualification (preferably in a health-related field).
Professional proficiency in Catalan and Spanish.
Desirable:
Experience working with autoclaves.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience performing laboratory assistant duties in a healthcare-related institution.
Knowledge of laboratory organisation and operations, or equivalent facilities.
Ability to work accurately, follow established procedures, and maintain high standards of hygiene, organisation, and safety in a laboratory environment.
Desirable:
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in the handling, cleaning, sterilisation, and maintenance of laboratory materials and equipment.
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratories.
Commitment to quality, hygiene, and service standards within a research and healthcare environment.
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Full-time (37,5 hours per week).
Starting date: From 13 July to 4 September.
Gross annual salary: Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
Contract type: Temporary contract (due to service needs).
