Bioinformatics Technician (Liver diseases)
VHIR is seeking a Bioinformatics Technician to join the Liver Diseases Research Group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). This group focuses on translational research in liver diseases, combining clinical insight with advanced molecular and computational approaches to improve patient diagnosis and treatment. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment, contributing specialised expertise in metagenomics to support cutting-edge research, including the development of bioinformatic tools and the analysis of complex sequencing datasets.
Main responsibilities and duties:
Develop and optimise metagenomic software tools.
Teach new students on bioinformatic analysis following metagenomics runs and data acquisition.
Collaborate in writing papers.
Prepare and mentor new students.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics ESCI-UPF (other degrees will not be considered).
Master’s Degree in Genetics and Genomics.
Master in Translational Biomedical Research offered by VHIR.
Extensive expertise in next-generation sequencing and metagenomics.
Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English (business level).
Minimum h-index of 9.
Minimum of 12 published papers in international journals, at least two as a first author.
Minimum of participation in 8 poster or oral presentations in seminars/meetings.
Desirable:
Strong teaching skills.
Excellent ability in delivering oral presentations at local, national and international meetings.
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
At least 4 years of experience working in molecular biology and next-generation sequencing of RNA viruses.
Experience in developing pipelines for metagenomics analysis to detect pathogens.
Experience in deep-sequencing methodology.
Experience in deep-sequencing viral data analysis in metagenomics.
Experience in integration of multi-omics datasets.
Experience in synthetic biology, constructing genetic circuits.
Knowledge of viruses, gradient isolation, data collection and analysis
Ability to teach and mentor new students
Self-motivates, enthusiastic and committed to the work to be developed.
Participation in competitive projects.
Desirable:
Experience in DNA and RNA extraction.
Experience in NGS.
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
Starting date: September, 2026.
Gross annual salary: Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
Contract type: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities.
