Laboratory Technician (Microbiome research)
VHIR is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the Microbiome Research Group.
Our group aims to investigate the role of the microbiota in health and disease. Its secondary objectives include developing molecular as well as bioinformatics tools to characterise the microbiome structure and function, discovering micro-biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis, investigating how faecal microbiota transplantation could be used as a therapeutic strategy, and evaluating the impact of diet on the gut microbial ecosystem The Microbiome Lab is a multidisciplinary team, composed of molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, and physicians. The group tackles several clinical fields including inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes, liver diseases, pre-term birth, and critical illness.
Main responsibilities and duties:
Coordinate and manage the laboratory experiments and protocols.
Provide support to PhD students and postdoc fellows.
Collaborate with group members, hospital clinicians, and external collaborators.
Prepare and organise the laboratory materials, equipment, biological samples and protocols.
Support participant recruitment and the collection of clinical, personal data and biological sample.
Process biological samples and analyse data derived from multiple projects.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
Higher Technician qualification (FP2) in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory or related field.
Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English.
Desirable:
Certificate to work with animals in the laboratory, or at least to have completed the theorical part of the course.

Capacity to work independently with complex tasks.
Good team work skills.
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Part-time (28,13 hours per week).
Starting date: September, 2026.
Gross annual salary: Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
Contract type: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities.
